Monster Truck!

johnny October 16th, 2007

It took a couple of months, but Jenn finally found a truck she was happy with. It’s in good mechanical shape with low mileage (for a diesel), but the paint job may have to grow on you. She drove down to south Florida to pick it up a day before we left town for a week and a half.

Here’s a grainy shot of Jenn’s new truck. She had to drive mine down south to pick it up, so you can see it tossing my old pickup around like a rag doll.

Truck Hunting

jenn October 3rd, 2007

Well, I still haven’t found my dream truck. As our time frame gets smaller, I am opening up to more vehicles. I do not think that I am going to find the exact combo that I want anymore. At least not anytime soon. So, it is settled. I will purchase a less than perfect truck soon. I am mostly ok with that. Except well, now I have a new standard for the perfect truck. Sadly, the prospects seem grim for it as well. Why is it so hard to find a manual transmission?! I love driving one and do not want anything else. It looks like I am going to have to assimilate into the automatic world because searching for one is a kin to searching for buried treasure with only 1/4 of a map. Its making me a bit frustrated tonight. I guess it can’t all be fun all of the time…. Hopefully the car gods will hear my prayers for my new “Perfect Truck”. Its a 1999-2003 F350 DRW, Crew Cab, 4×4, MANUAL! 6speed with decent mileage. Shesh.. its such a tiny request. Time to get back to praying. Now where’d I put that dead chicken…..

We have a winner?

jenn September 14th, 2007

Well the perfect truck might have come along. Johnny’s post yesterday must have hastened the good truck mojo. Oddly enough, I am feeling a little apprehensive about it. Its exactly what I thought I wanted. Its a F450, Diesel, Dually, and its 4×4. Its in the year range that I wanted, has the engine I want. and has decent mileage. The only problems so far are that it is 300 miles away and doesn’t have a bed. The price is great, so I don’t mind the bed. I will put a bed on it. So what’s my problem? I guess its the fact that this is my first diesel dually. The only concerns that I have that are specific to a 450 is its weight and mpg. Oh and if my feet can reach the pedals. The F450 will carry all we want and more. On the 350 we will most likely be carrying as much as it will handle.

I’d hate to buy a new one until I sell my old one, but this vehicle is pretty hard to come by, and I might just jump on it. Wish my title would hurry up. Anyone want to buy an Xterra?

No, we still haven’t decided

johnny August 8th, 2007

At this point, it’s almost a joke. I talked with my folks the other day and the first question they asked was ‘So, have you decided what you want yet?’. The answer is ‘yes, but…’

Our goals are (in no particular order):

  • The ability to go almost anywhere
  • Maintaining as much self sufficiency as possible
  • Keeping to a modest budget during both the purchasing and living phases
  • Being able to bring along a few toys to help occupy the time
  • Having enough living space to not kill each other

The perfect vehicle would be roughly:

  • 4×4
  • diesel
  • no more than 25′ long
  • larger on the inside than the outside
  • very popular in order to be available used and at more affordable prices
