As of December 1st, we have been living in a truck camper, full-time, for a total of four years. I had to change the title of the post. It is no longer “X Years Of Two People And Two Cats In 200 Hundred Square Feet”. We got a new member last year and lost one this year. That post name wasn’t honest anyway. Our floorspace is 11.4′ x 8′ and the bedroom is 7 x 8. It’s closer 120 square feet, and we make the most out of every square inch.
This is becoming a bi-yearly holiday for us. It appears that we neglected to celebrate our third year, but here is our post from two years ago: Two Years Of Two People And Two Cats In Two Hundred Square Feet 91.2

Today we had some visitors. Wayne went and broke the Hummer good, so he had a full tour group walking down the mountain. Apparently, he lost a retaining bolt that had one wheel of the Hummer sticking out at a decidedly incorrect angle.
Being the friendly hippie forest dwellers that we are, Jenn put out a plate of cookies and chips and a pitcher of water since we were roughly the halfway point of the tour. Half of the group seemed suspicious of ‘hippie cookies’, while the other half grabbed for them and then seemed disappointed that they were only cookies.

I’ve revised my estimate for homeless cats in our current campground. My best guess puts it at twenty to thirty… in a campground with about fifty lots and only half full. Here’s what it looks like thirty seconds after tossing out scraps from dinner.

So how do you fit two people and two cats in a truck camper long term? The classic answer is to stack the people on top of each other in a corner and strap them down, then let the cats fight over the remaining 194 square feet. Since we’re not having any of that, the cats are having to learn to deal with it. Somehow, they’ve convinced me to let them use one of my drawers as a ‘princess seat’ in between the times I actively need to get clothes from them.
For those of you that haven’t met our local anarchic overlords, the gray tabby is simply ‘The Cat’ as she was here first and hasn’t bothered to tell us what she prefers to be called, although she has no such compunctions against telling us when its time to be fed. The Siamese is Hunter. I was all for calling her ‘The Other Cat’, but Jenn overruled me and now we have a Siamese cat that thinks she is people because she has a name.
What you can’t see in these oh-so -cute pictures of napping cats is the constant turf war that goes on. Sure, it’s peaceful now, but there’s nothing more entertaining than watching these kids both jump in the drawer, get on their hind legs, lay their ears back and bat each other about the head and neck. OK, maybe we’re just lacking for entertainment, but it’s still pretty interesting.
