Hummer go BOOM!

johnny June 25th, 2008

Today we had some visitors. Wayne went and broke the good, so he had a full tour group walking down the mountain. Apparently, he lost a retaining bolt that had one wheel of the sticking out at a decidedly incorrect angle.

Being the friendly hippie forest dwellers that we are, Jenn put out a plate of cookies and chips and a pitcher of water since we were roughly the halfway point of the tour. Half of the group seemed suspicious of ‘hippie cookies’, while the other half grabbed for them and then seemed disappointed that they were only cookies.

We dropped the camper off with the Northwood guys around 7:30AM and needed to kill some time. Luckily, as the factory was very nearly closed, they allowed us to leave the cats in an unused stairwell for the day.

Wednesday evening, we had stopped at a battlefield next door to the Opequon church where we ran into a retired teacher who proceeded to fill us in on the history of the church and the surrounding area for about an hour as well as suggest a few things to see in town the following day. On advice of our Presbyterian tour guide, we aimed to get out of town before the got started if possible as we have had our share of festivals and fairs.

Back to Conibear!

johnny April 20th, 2008

It’s been quite a week. Tuesday night, we got a friend to watch the cats (thanks Eduardo!) so we could take the camper over to Lakeland for repairs. Pretty minor stuff, but we wanted to get it fixed before we hit the road at the end of the month.

Tuesday night was spent in another beautiful Wal-Mart . The ‘master list’ of Wal-Marts that do not allow overnight parking shows both Wal-Marts in Lakeland as off-limits, but there were several RV’s and trucks already parked and no signs posted, so we went inside to check and were told to go ahead. The following morning, the guy in the class A next door came out to see us off, quiz us about the large flag flying from the ladder and show off his tattoo. People in are weird. And they’re following us.

Hey lady, got any cat treats?

johnny April 14th, 2008

I’ve revised my estimate for homeless cats in our current . My best guess puts it at twenty to thirty… in a with about fifty lots and only half full. Here’s what it looks like thirty seconds after tossing out scraps from dinner.

Two People, Two Cats, Two Hundred Square Feet

johnny April 11th, 2008

So how do you fit two people and two cats in a long term? The classic answer is to stack the people on top of each other in a corner and strap them down, then let the cats fight over the remaining 194 square feet. Since we’re not having any of that, the cats are having to learn to deal with it. Somehow, they’ve convinced me to let them use one of my drawers as a ‘princess seat’ in between the times I actively need to get clothes from them.

For those of you that haven’t met our local anarchic overlords, the gray tabby is simply ‘The ’ as she was here first and hasn’t bothered to tell us what she prefers to be called, although she has no such compunctions against telling us when its time to be fed. The Siamese is Hunter. I was all for calling her ‘The Other ’, but Jenn overruled me and now we have a Siamese that thinks she is people because she has a name.

What you can’t see in these oh-so -cute pictures of napping cats is the constant turf war that goes on. Sure, it’s peaceful now, but there’s nothing more entertaining than watching these kids both jump in the drawer, get on their hind legs, lay their ears back and bat each other about the head and neck. OK, maybe we’re just lacking for entertainment, but it’s still pretty interesting.
